MISSION VIEJO, CA — The Broadway musical sensation "Hamilton" returns to southern California, and a Mission Viejo local performer is thrilled to come home to her family, friends, and fans.

Sabrina Sloan, reprising her principal lead of Angelica Schulyer in the 2020 leg of the "And Peggy Company" tour, is coming full circle. She once graced the Mission Viejo High School stage starring in "The Wiz," "Annie," and "Hello Dolly" and returns as a wife, mother, and Broadway star.

Her friends and fans have followed Sloan's success since graduation in 1997.

They voted for her when Sloan made the top 16 contestants as a semifinalist on American Idol in 2007. They cheered for her in Broadway shows such as "Hairspray," "Catch Me If You Can," "Motown the Musical," and "In the Heights" with "Hamilton" legend Lin Manuel-Miranda. Now, they'll head to Los Angeles to see her own the role of Angelica, the forever dissatisfied sister-in-law of Alexander Hamilton.

"Hamilton"runs from March 12 through September 20, 2020, the Pantages Theatre.

Sloan has always considered herself a "risk-taker," she said in interview on RedThread, and taking the role of Angelica has been her biggest risk and greatest reward yet. Her original audition was "the most unique experience of my life," she told RedThread in interview. The casting director, also a mother, asked pointedly if she could juggle family and being on tour. With the support of her husband and mother, Sloan made working-motherhood "work-work" back then and continues to do so.

In San Francsico, she appeared in eight shows a week, plus rehearsals, and looks to do the same in Los Angeles.

"It's something that I get to live and breathe every night while I'm also raising my kids," she told ABC7 San Francisco of being on stage in September. She described the moments onstage as Angelica as "an incredible time in my life."

Sloan first began her work on the first national tour of "Hamilton," as Angelica Schuyler in 2017, with the Philip Company. After a brief respite, she returned to the stage with the And Peggy Company, in San Francisco, on the third national tour.

In 2020, the troupe will open at Hollywood's Pantages Theater, with Sloan in her principal role of Angelica.

Sloan likens returning to work this week as "going back to work" and the "first day of school," she said on Instagram. She also said she is "hometown bound."

With book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, directed by Thomas Kali, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, "Hamilton" is the winner of Tony, Grammy, and Oliver Awards, according to Broadway World.

Along with her high school playbill of starring roles, Sloan also was a member of the color guard for the Diablos and the first-ever anchor of the Diablo Heat, according to her former instructor, Kathy Harris, chair of visual and performing arts.

Sloan attended and graduated from Northwestern University, Illinois, and has led a storied Broadway career but always stayed close to her roots, Harris said. Her biggest piece of advice she could offer is to "take risks."

"Don't let fear drive you," she said in interview. "If you don't try, you will never know what could be."
