Dame Helen Mirren, venerated actress of stage and screen, queen (sometimes literally) of sophisticated style, has wowed us once again.

This past week, celebrities from around the world were hitting the Cannes red carpet—more often than not, drowning in feathered gowns, the trains of which required a veritable army of assistants to handle. But not Helen. With one simple, yet unexpected flourish, she outdid them all.

Mirren stepped out in a sequined Elie Saab gown, glittering earrings, and a shock of pink hair. The outfit cut an understated silhouette, but her pink 'do assured she'd stand out regardless.

Even better: how well she sold this look. In every photo, Mirren blesses us with a new pose, each more elegant than the last.

By the next day, her locks had returned to their silvery norm—but Mirren's pink hair may not be gone for good. She previously went pink at the 2013 BAFTAs, a style move inspired by, of all things, America's Next Top Model.

"I just thought it would be fun to dye my hair pink," she told reporters at the time. "I mean, honestly, I was watching America’s Next Top Model and the season where there were the British girls... Well, the British girl who won, she had pink hair, and I thought: 'That looks really pretty.' So I’m copying her, basically.'"

Perhaps Mirren was recently rewatching ANTM, or maybe she took her Cannes cues from another pink-haired celebrity. But for many of us, it's Mirren who is the real hair-fluencer here.
