And this is how a romantic comedy is born.

An Oregon man inadvertently helped police find another thief when he crashed a stolen car into another stolen vehicle over the weekend, authorities said.

The unlikely coincidence happened Sunday morning in the city of Newberg, about 20 miles southwest of Portland.

Police said they were chasing a man who had just stolen a Toyota Land Cruiser when the driver, identified as 27-year-old Randy Cooper, crashed into an occupied Buick Regal.

Officers took him into custody and learned the sedan had also been reported stolen.

The driver, 25-year-old Kristin Begue, apparently stole the vehicle in a “completely unrelated” incident about three weeks earlier, the Newberg-Dundee Police Department said in a news release.

The woman, who also failed a sobriety test, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Cooper was charged with reckless driving, attempting to elude police, third-degree assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and other crimes.
