Douglasville Woman, Girl Found Dead In Burning Car Identified

DOUGLASVILLE, GA – Douglasville Police have identified the two people who were found inside a burned vehicle Sunday evening as Lawanda Barrows, 59, and Layla Hobbs, 4.

Derrick Lashun Hobbs, 37 of Douglasville, was arrested Sunday and charged with two counts each of felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault, according to a post on the police department's Facebook page.

Police officers were called to a vehicle fire behind a residence at 8036 Colquitt St. about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Douglas County Fire Department crews and police arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, investigators found the two victims inside the vehicle, according to a news release from the Douglasville Police Department.

Investigators determined that the deaths stemmed from a domestic issue.
