Payless ShoeSource emerges from bankruptcy, plans to reopen some shuttered stores

Discount shoe retailer Payless ShoeSource says it has emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The Associated Press reports the company will relaunch its e-commerce site in the United States and also reopen some stores that closed last year, but no additional details were given.

Payless ShoeSource filed for bankruptcy in 2019, the second time in less than two years, resulting in the closure of all 2,300 U.S. stores. The company first filed for bankruptcy in April 2017.

Payless ShoeSource is known for its affordable shoes and accessories, and still operates stores in Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. Its products are also currently offered on Amazon.

Based in Topeka, Kansas, Payless ShoeSource was founded in 1956.
