Chiefs’ Andy Reid Defends Embattled Bills Coach Sean McDermott

After a week of controversy surrounding Bills coach Sean McDermott, Chiefs coach Andy Reid offered his support to his AFC rival and former assistant ahead of Sunday’s clash in Kansas City.

McDermott, who worked under Reid for 12 years with the Eagles, faced harsh criticism this week following a report detailing a 2019 team meeting where he referenced the 9/11 terrorist attacks as an example of good teamwork.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Reid came to McDermott’s defense amid the ongoing backlash by praising his character.

“None of us talk during the week. That’s just how it goes,” Reid said, per NBC Sports. “We’re all so busy doing our thing. I can just tell you Sean McDermott is a heck of a human being. That’s what I do know.”

Reid’s comments underscore McDermott’s emotional remarks regarding his reported offensive reference, as the Bills coach told reporters hours after the article was published he immediately “regretted” his remark and apologized that same day.

As Reid and McDermott gear up Sunday, both coaches will look to made headlines for a more positive reason with a much-needed win in a pivotal matchup.
