Draymond Green Says He’ll Only Do Farewell Tour on One Condition, and Paul Pierce Has Jokes

Former NBA star Paul Pierce has been waiting to get his revenge on Draymond Green for seven years. His opportunity is finally within his sights.

In February 2017, Pierce was in the midst of his final NBA season, something he had announced. Green went viral during a Golden State Warriors-Los Angeles Clippers matchup when mics picked up him saying, “Chasing that farewell tour—they don’t love you like that! ... You thought you was Kobe?”

The interaction went viral at the time, and fans dunked on Pierce. Green’s reference to Kobe Bryant was a nod to his legendary final NBA season back in 2016 when every game he played was a celebration. So, when appearing on The Draymond Green Show this week, Pierce asked Green when he’s going to retire and if he’d announce that his final year was his last season beforehand.

“Nah,” Green immediately said.

“You don’t want no farewell tour?” Pierce asked while breaking into laughter.

“I can’t,” Green replied. “Because somebody’s going to do me like I said to you and then I’m f-----.”

Green also said he’d only play two or three more years, but Pierce didn’t sound like he could wait. In fact, he was itching for the farewell tour.

“I’m coming to them games and Imma yell the same thing you yelled to me!” Pierce said. “Please announce your last year!”

Green said the only way he’d announce his final year is if it were also Stephen Curry’s and Klay Thompson’s final year as well so that he could “ride Steph’s coattails on his farewell tour.”
