Team Canada teammates Marie-Philip Poulin and Laura Stacey announce engagement

Known as Captain Clutch, Poulin is one of Canada’s most decorated players in hockey history, and has competed four times in the Olympics. The 31-year-old from Quebec is the only hockey player to have scored goals in four different Olympic hockey finals.

And in 2022, she won the Northern Star Award, or Canada’s athlete of the year.

Stacey has a similarly strong resumé as a two-time Olympian who won silver beside her new fiancée at PyeongChang 2018, and gold at Beijing in 2022. She also has gold medals from Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014, and is the great-granddaughter of Hall of Famer Francis Michael “King” Clancy, wearing No. 7 in honour of him.

Canadian ice dancer Tessa Virtue congratulated the couple on Instagram, writing “Couldn’t be happier for you both! What an exciting chapter,” under their engagement post.

Teammate Jillian Saulnier said she’s already “stretching for this dance floor.”
