Qualification ended at 5 p.m Friday for the Oct. 8 Birmingham city council special election.
Voters will be choosing new leaders for Districts 1, 6 and 7.
Wardine Alexander, who represents District 7, was appointed in October 2018 to replace Council President Pro Tem Jay Roberson after he resigned. Clinton Woods and Crystal Smitherman were appointed in December 2018 to represent Districts 1 and 6, respectively. They filled seats vacated by Lashunda Scales and Shelia Tyson, who were elected to the Jefferson County Commission in November 2018.
