Baxter from “Anchorman” has nothing on Benny from Modesto.
Benny, who went missing months ago while his family was moving from Tennessee to California, was found in Bay County, Mich., according to WNEM, a California CBS affiliate.
The Bay County Animal Control posted a video on the city’s Facebook page featuring Benny, a Labrador/pit bull mix, as the pet of the week April 19.
Shortly after, a call came into Animal Control from a resident in Modesto, Calif., who said the pup belonged to them. The caller’s story of the adoption of Benny, who had previously been owned by a military family in Kentucky but then moved to Tennessee, matched up with information from the dog’s microchip, according to MLive.
Bark twice if you’re in Milwaukee, indeed.
“We were like in the process of literally packing up our whole house. And I’m guessing one of the movers left the gate open or something and we never saw Benny again,” said Gabby McAndrew, Benny’s owner, according to WNEM.
How exactly Benny wound up in the Midwest wasn’t clear.
“We’ve never had an instance like this,” said Michael F. Halstead, director for Bay County Animal Control, according to MLive.
Halstead added the pup is “high-energy; he just won’t quit. He loves the exercise area. He’s a very nice dog.”
Benny will be reunited with his family soon. He’s currently set for a flight to California on Tuesday.
