For the release of her new album Carla Bruni, the artist, model and longtime accomplice of Vogue Paris is featured in our Iconic series, and talks to us about the personalities who have shaped her life and influenced her everyday style. Here are a few of those personalities as described by Carla herself.

The icon of her childhood: Nina Simone

“Her songs, her music, her voice and her story. Despite her incredible talent, she was refused admission to the Conservatory because she was black. She later became a jazz singer, which was heartbreaking in itself. It's crazy to make such beautiful songs, to give so much pleasure to others while thinking that it was an extraordinary heartbreak for her.”

Her style icon: Audrey Hepburn

“Audrey Hepburn arrived with this finesse at a time when there were only sublime sensual creatures like Rita Hayworth, Eva Gardner or Marilyn Monroe. We were struck by the difference in her charm, the uniqueness of her style. I like the simplicity of this woman and her unprepared, natural side that has always inspired me and still inspires me now. ”

Her iconic red carpet piece: a backless Yves Saint Laurent dress

“This dress was given to me by Yves Saint Laurent shortly before his death. It's a dress reminiscent of Mireille Darc's in Le Grand Blond with a black shoe. It is an extremely prudish dress, even austere from the front, but from the back it is open until the hollow of the back. ”

An iconic fashion moment: the finale of the Versace Spring / Summer 2018 show

“We met up with former colleagues to walk the runway on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of Gianni Versace, while our children were on the runway! Like Kaïa Gerber, Cindy Crawford's daughter. What's funny and exciting is that fashion doesn't live in nostalgia and with this iconic moment, people came back to their past, to their memories through us. ”

Her iconic song: “Knockin 'on Heaven's Door” by Bob Dylan

“The idea of knocking on the door of paradise pleases me, the idea that there is paradise pleases me. Boy Dylan's songs are iconic because they deal with eternity.”
