Retailer Lands' End To Open Store At Fair Lakes

The Fair Lakes store will be Lands' End's first standalone store in Virginia and its second in the D.C. area.

FAIRFAX, VA — Lands' End is opening a new store at the Fair Lakes Shopping Center in Fairfax, the retailer's first standalone store in Virginia and its second in the D.C. area. The store will be different than most traditional brick-and-mortar stores. Customers will be able to select items at a kiosk and explore the dedicated digital shopping area.

The store will open its doors on Thursday, Feb. 27. Lands' End will hold the grand opening celebration for the store two days later with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29.

"We are excited to introduce the Fairfax community to our first standalone store in Virginia, and we look forward to growing our presence in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area," Claudia Mazo, senior vice president of retail of Lands' End, said Thursday in a statement.

Sears bought Lands' End for $1.9 billion in 2002 but spun off the brand in 2014. in 2018, Lands' End announced the company would no longer be "relying on Sears," which housed about 180 Lands' End stores within their stores at the time. Lands' End has completely vacated all Sears stores, the company said Thursday

Last fall, Lands' End opened a store at Rockville's Congressional Plaza, its first store in the D.C. area. Lands' End is looking to open between 40 and 60 new locations across the country over the next few years.

At the Fair Lakes Lands' End, the store will feature several kiosks within the store where shoppers can browse and shop the full Lands' End collection of products. Shoppers will be able to purchase products that may not be available in the store, send the items to any address with free shipping, and return merchandise to the store free of charge.

Lands' End said it is scouting other sites in Virginia to open stores. "But for now we’re focused on ensuring we are delivering our promise of outstanding customer service in these newly opened locations," the company said in a statement. "We’ve always enjoyed a loyal customer base in Virginia and look forward to expanding that even further with our new location."

The public is invited to attend Lands’ End grand opening celebration on Feb. 29 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, March 1 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The first 100 guests to spend $100 during the grand opening will receive a free Lands’ End canvas tote. Light refreshments will be available inside the store.
