The stay at home order in Pennsylvania will extend until May 8, Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Monday.
Previously, it was set to expire on April 30.
Starting May 8, Wolf said that some construction projects will be allowed to continue. He also said that a bill will be signed soon to allow for online auto sales. It was not clear, however, whether those will begin soon or if they will have to wait until May 8. Notaries will be able to work online soon, too.
Additional details are expected to be released. This post will be updated when they are.
Wolf’s announcement to extend the shutdown came about a half-hour after protesters rallied outside of the capitol to seek reopening.
It’s unclear what other businesses might see relief in early May. Wolf did say Monday that curbside pickup at Fine Wine & Good Spirit stores will be monitored, and if all goes well, the policy could be extended to other retailers who could take, fulfill, and deliver orders for pickup.
“You must only travel, if needed, for businesses that are open,” Wolf said. "We’ve implemented guidance to protect employees and customers, all that stays in place, but we also need to all have hope that we’re going to be able to soon resume many of the activities that have come to a halt.
“Even if, when we resume those activities they’re in a different form, we need to have the hope that Pennsylvania’s economy will soon bounce back and be strong again. We need to have hope that we’ll soon be able to be with the loved ones we haven’t seen personally in six weeks.”
