South Suburban Fish Fry Roundup for Lent 2021, Pandemic Style

CHICAGO SOUTH SUBURBS — The Friday Night Lenten Fish Fry landscape is going to look a little different in 2021. Many parishes are opting out of hosting fish fries in support of local restaurants decimated by the pandemic.

Other churches, veterans groups and fraternal organizations are doing drive-thru and carryout for their meatless gastro fests, or limiting capacity in their dining rooms and halls in compliance with state COVID-19 guidelines.

St. Albert the Great Church (Burbank)

  • 5555 W. State Road, Burbank, please enter through the main entrance on Girard Drive Only, near the church and Parish Office.
  • Drive-thru fish fry Fridays during Lent from 5 to 7:30 p.m. starting Feb. 19, Feb 26, March 5, March 12 and March 19.
  • St. Albert claims their fish fry is the best in town.
  • Due to COVID-19 and limited prep facilities, St. Albert will be offering a streamlined menu, including fish and shrimp dinner $8.75, fish sandwich $6.50, kids fish dinner $7.75 and kids Cheese Pizza Dinner $4.
  • Online ordering available after Ash Wednesday.

St. Benedict's Famous Fish Fry (Blue Island)

  • York and Gregory Streets
  • Celebrating 51 years of fish.
  • Fridays during Lent, Feb. 19, Feb. 26, March 5, March 12, March 19 and March 26.
  • Lunch, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; dinner 4 to 7:30 p.m.

  • Cod, catfish, shrimp or chicken strips, soup and salad, baked potato and fries.
  • Coffee, tea, soft drinks and desserts.
  • Take out and or dining in.
  • Maximum seating capacity is 75 with social distancing. Sit at the bar or eat it in the back.

Bremen VFW Post 2791 (Tinley Park)

  • CARRYOUT ONLY: Corona battered cod, Red Hooke Ale battered haddock, Chipotle-lime tilapia and chicken nugget kids’ plate, including tater tots, salad, bread and butter, desserts, coffee and tea. Dinners are $10
  • Cash and credit cards accepted.
