Manitoba public health officials say five more people with COVID-19 have died, bringing the province to a total of 804 deaths.
The deaths include:
- a woman in her 70s from Prairie Mountain Health region, linked to the outbreak at McCreary/Alonsa Health Centre;
- a woman in her 80s from Prairie Mountain Health region, linked to the outbreak at McCreary/Alonsa Health Centre;
- a man in his 80s from Prairie Mountain Health region, linked to the outbreak at the medical unit at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre;
- a woman in her 50s from the Winnipeg health region; and
- a woman in her 70s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the outbreak at Concordia Place.
The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 10.8 per cent provincially and 6.8 per cent in Winnipeg.
As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, 113 new cases of the virus have been identified and brings the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 28,810.
Today’s COVID-19 data shows:
- 10 cases in the Interlake–Eastern health region
- 58 cases in the Northern health region
- 6 cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region
- 6 cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region
- 33 cases in the Winnipeg health region.
The data also shows there are 3,542 known active cases and 24,464 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19.
There are 145 people in hospital with active COVID-19 as well as 127 people in hospital with COVID-19 who are no longer infectious but continue to require care, for a total of 272 hospitalizations.
Laboratory testing numbers show 1,595 tests were completed Saturday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February 2020 to 466,635. Case investigations continue and if a public health risk is identified, the public will be notified.
Outbreaks have been declared over at the Brandon Correctional Centre in Brandon, Woodhaven Manor in Steinbach and the River Ridge II Retirement Residence in Winnipeg.
Thousands of Manitobans flocked to stores over the weekend after the province lifted restrictions for most businesses Saturday. Stores were allowed to operate at 25 per cent capacity up to a maximum of 250 people.
Long lineups filled malls as shoppers waited their turn to get into stores.
Restaurants and services like tattoo artists and nail salons are still not allowed to open.
Dr. Brent Roussin, the province’s chief medical health officer, said he understood why those who have to remain closed are frustrated, but added if they responded to every concern by every industry, stores would be fully open and numbers would spike.
“We can’t overwhelm our health care system,” he said Monday.
While cases have been lower in Winnipeg, in the northern Health region, case numbers continue to climb.
Over the weekend, officials announced six additional deaths, bringing the death toll to 799.
There were 438 new cases over Saturday and Sunday, with 234 of those new cases are in the Northern Health region.
Dr. Joss Reimer, who is part of the vaccination task force, said all personal care home residents have now been vaccinated.
The vaccination eligibility list will be released Wednesday, said Reimer.
