A gas leak in a town at the Oxfordshire border has led police to issue a warning to the public due to the ongoing road closures.

A gas leak in Lechlade on Thames – a town on the edge of the Cotswolds – may impact Oxfordshire commuters warned Thames Valley Police this evening.

The situation on the High Street has caused all roads leading into Lechlade to close and Police Community Support Officer Darryn Moulding warned commuters to “please be mindful”.

He said: “We have been aware from our Gloucestershire colleagues that Lechlade is currently closed due to a gas leak situation.

“We currently have no time span for this incident but hope to keep you all updated as and when details arrive.”

On social media Lechlade residents commented that police cars were “everywhere” and that it was a “major event”.

Another stated that the marketplace had been “completely closed”.
