Penn State's 5 who thrived vs. Rutgers: Juwan Johnson steps up, as does another third-year player

A 29-point win over a Big Ten East foe is reason to celebrate for some Penn State Nittany Lions. Here are five PSU players who stood out Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium ...

JUWAN JOHNSON. The third-year wideout had been quiet in recent weeks but the 6-4, 230-pounder consistently made plays on the Rutgers' secondary, finishing with five catches for 78 yards.

JASON CABINDA. The Lions' senior middle linebacker, who is a Jersey guy, paced the Penn State defense in tackles with 11. He also had a tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

BLAKE GILLIKIN. The second-year player has a knack for making magic in the field-position game. Gillikin punted five times for an average of 40.6 yards. More important, the kicker -- with help from his coverage guys -- placed three kicks inside the Rutgers' 20.

TRACE MCSORLEY. In Trace, Penn State trusts. The dual-threat quarterback completed 16 of 21 passes for 214 yards and tossed touchdowns to tight end Mike Gesicki and wideout DaeSean Hamilton. McSorley also ran for a 20-yard touchdown with the Rutgers' defense putting the clamps to Saquon Barkley.

AYRON MONROE. Here's a surprise. The Lions' third-year safety came off the bench to finish with seven tackles and Monroe split a sack with Antonio Shelton.
