DC Snow Update: Snowfall Expected Deep Into Sunday

As the weekend approaches, the forecast is getting clearer, and the odds of local snowfall continue to solidify.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The weekend is fast approaching, and with it a snowstorm that could drop a few inches on our area -- and the snow could keep falling for quite a while.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang predicts that snow will start Saturday afternoon, but will remain light through Sunday morning and only an inch of accumulation is expected (subject to change, they add). However, the snow should keep falling deep into Sunday, and they are predicting anywhere from 1 to 4 inches when all is said and done.

But there is also a chance of a burst to moderate to heavy snow sometime between the late morning and evening hours on Sunday, they note, so snowfall totals could be above that.

Also, points south may get heavier snow than most of the D.C. area does.

Not surprisingly, it will be quite cold, with highs topping out in the mid-30s and diving deep into the 20s by the evening.

Sunday evening, the steady snowfall should devolve into flurries and then eventually into nothing as the system moves out in time for the start of your week.

However, because Monday will also be quite cold, the ground may remain snow-covered for a little while.
