As of 9:30 a.m. Sunday, there were still three police cruisers at the scene, with police tape marking off a large swath of the north sidewalk on Portage Avenue between Smith Street and Garry Street. Firefighters were on scene mid-afternoon, washing away the pools and spatters of blood from the sidewalk with a fire hose and a broom.

Resident Laura Murray was shaken up by the incident.

“It was a little unsettling, honestly. I woke up this morning… came down and I was just little shocked, because it feels pretty safe down here,” Laura Murray said.
