Heat warnings remained in effect for much of Alberta Tuesday, and Environment Canada said daytime high temperatures are once again expected to be near 30 C.

The warning was first issued Saturday for several areas in northern Alberta, and later expanded to areas in the central and southern part of the province, including Edmonton. Most of Alberta east of the foothills is affected.

The weather agency said the warning is due to a ridge of high pressure currently in place over the Prairie.

“With this, a very warm air mass will produce daytime high temperatures near 30 C on Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures are not expected to cool off until mid-week,” Environment Canada said in the weekend.
