ABERDEEN, S.D. — A Britton man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison in a rape case involving a 1-year-old.
Chance A. Severson, 29, was also sentenced this week to eight years in prison on a statutory rape charge.
He faced up to life in prison in the infant rape case. His prison terms will be concurrent.
Severson admitted to completing an act of sexual penetration with both victims, according to court paperwork.
He will have to serve at least 75% of his 45-year sentence before he is eligible for parole. Judge Richard Sommers gave Severson credit for 538 days served.

He was ordered to pay $208 in court costs, plus restitution of $16,580 to cover the costs of medical evaluations, a forensic investigation and medical services. He will also have to pay for any future medical and counseling costs.
Severson is required to register as a sex offender and is not allowed contact with anyone younger than 18.
