HERNDON, VA — As the Town of Herndon prepares to enter Phase 1 of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's phased reopening, the town has established a temporary outdoor dining permit to allow restaurants to serve diners at their establishments.

Ever since Northam issued his stay-at-home order, restaurants have been restricted to serving their customers via curbside pickup or delivery only. Some Herndon eateries were able to adapt, while others closed their doors for the duration.

Thanks to the temporary outdoor dining permits, restaurants will once again be able to serve customers on their premises provided they follow guidance from the state and in the application. This includes limiting 50 patrons to the service area, placing tables six feet apart, prohibiting parities larger than 10 at a table, and providing concrete barriers as needed.
