Burger King customers in the UK were emailed a blank receipt from the fast-food chain today despite not placing an order.

Thousands of Brits were sent a mysterious receipt from the restaurant at around 5:15am on Tuesday morning that read 'Your order will be ready to be picked up at Burger King'.

Although the total cost was left blank alongside the location of the order, the email read: 'While you're waiting for your food, let us know how you liked ordering online. It'll help us make the experience even better.'

Hundreds of panicked customers rushed to check if they're accounts had been 'hacked' and called their banks to report a fraudulent transaction - only to find they had not been charged.

Twitter has since been flooded with hilarious memes from users who mocked the restaurant for 'sending a passive aggressive email because you haven't ordered from them for a while'.

Meanwhile, Dominos Pizza was quick to mock the fast-food chain, tweeting: 'Confirming we also ordered nothing from Burger King.'

In response, Specsavers added: 'They should be ordering something from us ASAP.'

Joshua Butcher claimed he had emailed Burger King's support line and was told it was simply a 'technical error on their end' despite the fast-food chain not yet putting out a statement.

The email, posted to his social media account, read : 'I can assure you that you were not charged for this. This was a technical error on our end. Please disregard this email.'

Debbie Clapham, who lives in Cambridge, deleted the email upon receiving it because she 'assumed it was spam' - but questioned how they even had her details as she 'couldn't even remember registering with them'.

One Twitter user wrote: 'Thanks Burger King for the blank email receipt, really gave me a scare that someone hacked my account.'

Another user, from Manchester, added: 'Burger King having me frantically check my bank this morning thinking I'd been scammed or something.'

Twitter user, Stephen, revealed he hasn't visited the chain in 'about nine months' and also questioned how Burger King had his email address.

Burger King customers in Japan, the United States, Britain and France have all reported receiving the 'suspicious' email.
