Prince Fritzi von Preussen of Prussia, the great-great-grandson of the late German Emperor Wilhelm II, married his long-term girlfriend, Tilly Johnson, this weekend.

It was a beautiful low-key wedding, perfectly in keeping with the current restrictions and filled with the sweetest flower girls and page boys decked out in smart, embroidered white dungarees and flower crowns. The newlyweds posed in a doorway between wisteria – that had likely taken an unseasonal battering given the turbulent May weather – surrounded by their throng of youthful wedding helpers.

Mathilda – known as Tilly – looked effortlessly chic with a bright bouquet and the most elegant dress with lace details. She wore the Von Preussen tiara – worn by many aristocrats through history – including, first and foremost, Lady Brigid Guinness, who became Princess Frederick of Prussia on the day of her 1945 wedding to Prince Frederick, and more recently, Princess Florence, Fritzi’s elder sister, at her high society wedding to the Hon. James Tollemache in 2014 (attended by Scarlett Johansson and Viscountess Astor amongst many others). The tiara was recently worn by another granddaughter, Lady Charlotte Santo Domingo, at the Colombian State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.

The tiara is made up of a delicate floral design and is thought to have most likely been a Guinness heirloom, given as a wedding present to Lady Brigid in the 20th century.

31-year-old Fritzi, the son of Prince Nicholas and the beautiful Hon. Victoria Mancroft, looked characteristically dapper in a grey suit and round spectacles for the big day. Fritzi, who went to school at Eton, met Tilly at Leeds University nearly a decade ago. Today, he is a freelance conservator and polisher of frames and furniture with a penchant for the ukulele. Many congratulations to the gorgeous couple.
