Two people crossing a street on the Upper West Side on were sent flying when a motorist blew through a red light and struck them.
Video seen by the Daily News shows an unsuspecting man and woman stepping into the crosswalk at W. 98 St. and West End Ave. after the light overhead changed to red at about 4 p.m. Friday.
A grey 2011 Acura headed north on West End Ave. ran the red light and slammed into the pair, sending their bodies hurling through the air.
“I heard a bang and a scream like a really blood curdling scream. I could see two people laying in the street and they weren’t moving,” said Tag Gross, 60, who lives nearby. “The one woman kept trying to lift her head up. There was blood everywhere.”
The victims landed about 25 feet from where they were struck, witnesses said.
The middle-aged woman driver stayed at the scene and has yet to be charged, police sources said.
“The woman who hit them was stressed out and was in a bad state of mind. she got out, she was in shock,” said Gross.
“I don’t think she realizes the severity of the injuries. But when it sank in, she grabbed her chest and got on her knees and obviously was really, really upset.”
The unidentified victims are a doorman in his fifties who works nearby and a 65-year-old woman. They didn’t appear to be together, sources said.
Both were rushed to St Luke’s Hospital with head trauma. They were in serious but stable condition, police sources said
