If you’re looking to buy, here are a few homes worth checking out

Whether you’re looking to buy or just enjoy checking out the city’s architecture, open houses can be a fun and informative way to get a firsthand look at Detroit homes. Take a tour, sip on a fresh drink, and maybe buy a house at the end of it.

This week, we’ve got five open houses to share with you.

A large two-story home with stone on the first floor and its bay windows, and yellow paint between the exposed wood on the second floor.
Living room with a brown sectional couch and a fireplace with a wood mantel. The walls and ceiling are white.
The dining room has a wood table with six wood chairs around it. There’s a small chandelier on the stucco ceiling. At the other side of the room, the french doors have leaded glass windows.

Take a look at this five-bedroom Tudor Revival on Parkside Street near the Detroit Golf Course. The 3,600-square-foot home has a warm interior with well-maintained original features matched with tasteful new ones. The floor-tiled vestibule leads right into the wood-paneled study, which has some impressive crown molding, a stucco ceiling, and built-in shelves. And like many rooms in the home—see the dining and living rooms—it’s got stained- and leaded-glass windows on the doors.

This home first listed for $389,000 but has gotten a couple price decreases and is now selling for $359,000.

This classic brick home on Atkinson Street within Boston-Edison is listed for $285,000. We like the attractive exterior with shutters and dormer window. Inside, the 2,136-square-foot home has been fully renovated and now features an open floor plan on the wide first floor.

La Salle Gardens

This home on La Salle Boulevard, listed for $389,000, got an even more extreme makeover. Built in 1922, the 2,940-square-foot home underwent an eight-month, down-to-the-studs renovation. In addition to all new mechanicals, there’s also a modern kitchen with an island and nicely appointed bathrooms. The master bedroom has some built-in shelving and a walk-out deck overlooking the backyard.

Boston-Edison

Lately, we bring you a home on Edison Street, built over 100 years ago, that’s listed for $359,000. The home has an attractive brick and stucco exterior with charming shutters. Inside, the nearly 3,000-square-foot home has gotten a total renovation. In addition to all new mechanicals and roof, there’s a rebuilt kitchen with a passthrough, recessed lighting, walk-in glass showers, and more features you’d expert in a modern rebuild.
