The PSAL quarterfinals were underway on a dreary, rain-filled Monday, and three Staten Island schools endured different fates.

No. 8 New Dorp pulled off the upset of the playoffs with a 7-3 triumph over No. 1 Forest Hills, while No. 2 Petrides, which finished the regular season undefeated, suffered a shocking 6-5 defeat at the hands of No. 10 Curtis.

No. 4 Tottenville advanced with a 10-5 victory over Bayside to meet ND in the semifinals on Thursday at 8 p.m., while Curtis will face off with Fort Hamilton in the other semifinal bout at 5:45.

Cougars coach Nick Mangieri described the contest as “a stout defensive showing combined with well-timed offensive bursts".

Team captain Joanna Anikulapo orchestrated the attack, leading the way with three goals, while four other scorers found the back of the net for ND.

The stout defensive effort was headed by Hiylee Marte, Kaitlyn Kiefer, and Samantha Todaro -- while goalie Carol Montano secured seven saves.

“They’ve continued to build chemistry over the last few weeks and limited the No. 1 seed to just three goals goes a long way to showing how much work they’ve put in,” said Mangieri. “I’m incredibly proud of this team for making the trip out to Queens in torrential rain and coming home with a big win.”

Jessica Calabria led the Pirates with four scores, while Gabrielle Artz and Maya Adeschenko chipped in two goals apiece to pace the scoring.
