For Calvin Kim of Alexandria, the saying "happy wife, happy life" rings true. After all, he stopped to buy his wife a sandwich and became a millionaire.

Kim won $2 million in the May 28 Mega Millions drawing after buying a ticket at the Eden Center's Saigon Bakery & Deli in Falls Church. He was the only person in Virginia and one of five nationwide to match the first five numbers that day. In fact, the chance of matching the first five numbers is one in 12,607,306.

The winning numbers for the drawing were 9-21-34-42-50, and the Mega Ball number was 21. Kim used random computer-generated numbers for the ticket.

Matching the first five numbers usually earns a $1 million prize. Kim doubled that prize to $2 million by spending an extra dollar for the Megaplier.

No ticket matched all six numbers to win the estimated $418 million jackpot on May 28. Virginia Lottery officials say 24,000 Mega Millions tickets bought in Virginia won something in that day's drawing.

Upon winning, Kim recalled thinking "Hey cool!" Then he immediately tucked the ticket away for safekeeping. He plans to save his winnings for retirement.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m.
