Freshman guard Alex Cowan was tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week on Monday, November 11.

SOMERSET, N.J. – Wagner College women’s basketball freshman Alex Cowan has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Cowan, a guard from Bowie, Md., averaged 33.5 minutes of playing time through the first two games of her Seahawk career while contributing 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. She also converted on 48.1 percent shooting from the floor, 62.5 percent from three-point range while going 12-of-16 (75.0%) from the charity stripe.

In the season opener at Big Ten member, #4/5 Maryland, Cowan led the way with a game-high 25 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor, which included 7-of-10 from the charity stripe in 31 minutes of play. She followed that up with a team-high 23 at Butler, in which she converted on six three-pointers in nine tries while playing 36 minutes.

For Cowan, the 25 point outburst at Maryland is tied for the sixth-best point total by a rookie this season while her 23-point performance at Butler is tied for the 11th highest in the nation thus far.

Cowan and the Seahawks gear up for their home opener on Wednesday, November 13, as they welcome Saint Peter’s to the Spiro Sports Center for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
