1 charged after man critically injured after assault in downtown Edmonton: police

A man is facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon after an assault in downtown Edmonton Tuesday night.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition after he was found when police were responding to reports of an assault.

Officers were called to 97 Street and Jasper Avenue at about 8:15 p.m., police said in a news release.

“Upon arrival, officers located a male with significant injuries,” police said.

“The male was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics, where he remains.”

Police did not initially release the age of the victim. On Thursday, officers provided an update saying the male victim is 45.

The man was in stable condition Thursday.

Matthew Douglas, 23, has been charged in relation to the assault.
