Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Named NFL MVP for Second Time in Career

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is officially a two-time MVP award winner. Jackson was announced as the 2023 NFL MVP at the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday night, now giving him two MVPs in five years as a starting quarterback.

Jackson’s second MVP season may not have been as explosive as his first, but he still led the Ravens to a 14–3 record and the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The 27-year-old totaled a career high 3,678 passing yards with 24 passing touchdowns, along with 821 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in 16 games during the season.

Jackson accepted the award at the end of the show live from Las Vegas.

In the voting, Jackson finished with 49 first place-votes and 493 votes overall, which was 341 votes ahead of the second place winner, Dak Prescott. Jackson is also the 11th player in NFL history to earn multiple MVPs, joining greats like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Patrick Mahomes.

While the award is validating for Jackson, the quarterback was hoping to be preparing for the Super Bowl this Sunday. The sixth-year pro played in his first AFC championship game this year, but is still looking for a Super Bowl appearance and victory.

Other winners on Thursday night included:

Offensive Rookie of the Year: C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Will Anderson, Houston Texans
Coach of the Year: Kevin Stefanski, Cleveland Browns
Offensive Player of the Year: Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers
