Alameda School Construction Projects Continue During Coronavirus

ALAMEDA, CA — While classrooms have been closed to students because of coronavirus, work on four schools within the Alameda Unified School District has been declared an “Essential Function” and continues.

"It is the district’s position that completing the construction projects at school sites is essential in order for AUSD to provide educational programs in safe, accessible, and structurally sound facilities once shelter in place orders are lifted and in-class instruction resumes," the district said in an online posting.

  • Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School: modernization and gymnasium floor replacement
  • Alameda High School: fence removal and gymnasium floor replacement
  • Edison Elementary School: asbestos removal
  • Woodstock Child Care & Development Center: floor replacement

The number of workers allowed on site at any given time is restricted to ensure social distancing rules.
