Well, so much for seeing Zion Williamson in blue and orange.
Knicks fans’ dreams of landing the multi-talented power forward vanished in thin air after they landed the No. 3 pick following the NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago on Tuesday night.
Instead, the 6-foot-7 jumping jack will most likely become the property of the New Orleans Pelicans, who were selected despite only having a 6 percent chance of winning the top spot.
The Memphis Grizzlies were second and, with legend Patrick Ewing sitting in for the team that drafted him No. 1 in 1985, the Knicks were selected third. New York, of course, had a 14 percent chance of getting the No. 1 pick, tying them with both Cleveland and Phoenix for the best odds.
Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.
Now that Williamson is out of the picture, you’ll likely start hearing a lot of talk about RJ Barrett, Williamson’s Duke University teammate. The 6-7 Barrett is a shooting forward.
In addition to Barrett, Murray State’s Ja Morant is another name that will likely be linked to the Knicks, depending, of course, on what Memphis decides to do.
Here’s the official results from Tuesday’s Draft Lottery:
1. New Orleans
2. Memphis
3. Knicks
4. L.A. Lakers
5. Cleveland
6. Phoenix
7. Chicago
8. Atlanta
9. Washington
10. Atlanta
