Women Assaulted On Walking Paths In Centreville: UPDATE

UPDATE: Authorities have released a sketch of a man who assaulted two women on walking paths in Centreville: Fairfax County Police.

CENTREVILLE, VA—Authorities are looking for an unknown man who assaulted two women on area walking paths April 18, according to Fairfax County Police. He's described as white, in his late teens to early 20s with short dark hair and glasses.

Shortly after 3:20 p.m, a woman was walking on a patch along Braddock Road near Sully Station Drive was grabbed from behind by a man who touched her inappropriately and then ran away. Later in the day, around 6:30 p.m., another woman was near a pond at a park on Walney Road when she saw a man approaching people and asking for hugs. He then approached her from behind, pressed his body against hers and ran way after she confronted her.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 703-814-7026. Meanwhile, authorities have offered relevant safety tips:

  • Run, jog or walk in areas that are familiar to you.
  • If you are walking in an unfamiliar location, bring a friend along with you.
  • Avoid running, jogging or walking in a poorly lit or secluded area or after dark.
  • Tell someone where you’ll be and share your GPS location with them.
  • Do not wear headphones or earbuds.
  • Switch up your route and pattern so your actions aren’t predictable.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
