VA Tax Day 2019 Freebies, Deals: Burgers, Margaritas, Pizza, Subs

WASHINGTON, DC — Many businesses across northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., are hoping to ease the pain of filing income taxes — especially if your hoped-for refund vanished because of tax law changes — for consumers with specials from free food to discounts on clothing, vacations and makeup. Deals range from burgers, pizza, bagels and margaritas to smoothies and shaved ice at these spots as you save up to pay an unexpected tax bill or spend a smaller windfall. All deals are only available on Monday, April 15, unless noted.

If you're among the pool of Americans who wait until the day before or on Tax Day to file, there are even last-minute deals to get that tedious paperwork done. H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt are offering discounts on tax preparation, while online services, including Turbo Tax and Tax Slayer have deals to use their sites to file.

Applebee’s: April’s drink special at Applebee’s is the Strawberry Dollarita with a Twizzler straw. As its name suggests, it’s just $1 all month long, so you can enjoy it on Tax Day.

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse: Monday’s special is half off any large deep dish or tavern cut pizza. Tax Day will also kick off three weeks of free delivery and no service fees on online orders. See details.

Bruegger’s Bagels: The annual Tax Relief Deal is back April 10 to 15 at Bruegger’s. The Big Bagel Bundle (13 New York-style bagels with two tubs of cream cheese) is $10.40 ($3.50 off). To get the offer, join the Bruegger’s Inner Circle rewards program, or claim the offer on Brueggers.com.

BurgerFi: Double cheeseburgers are $4.15 on April 15. Limit of one per person. Get the offer by downloading the BurgerFi app.

DoorDash: If tax stress makes you want to curl up on the couch, order in. DoorDash is offering $20 off on any order for new customers for the rest of the month.

Firehouse Subs: Purchase a full-price medium or large sub, chips and a drink and get a free medium sub. Deal valid April 15 to 17. Use this coupon.

Great American Cookies: Stop by a Great American Cookies location on April 15, and get a free Original Chocolate Chip Cookie. No purchase required. See details.

Hardee’s: Get a free Made From Scratch Sausage Biscuit while supplies last on April 15. Claim this deal by stopping by Hardee’s between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. local time and use the phrase “Made From Scratch” when ordering. Limit of one per customer.

Kona Ice: Trucks in many metro areas will be giving away free shaved ice on April 15 in honor of what it Kona calls Chill Out Day.

Menchie’s: Download the app by April 15, and get a free $5 frozen yogurt. The Menchie’s Money coupon will show up automatically in the app.

Noodles & Company: NoodlesREWARDS members will receive $4 off online and mobile orders of $10 or more from April 10 to April 15.

Pizza Hut: Get any large two-topping pizza for $5.99 for carryout when ordering online. Deal valid at participating locations through April 15.

The IRS suggests keeping tax records for three years, so bring in any old returns hogging space in your filing cabinet.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites: The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Miami is offering guests 20% off a future stay (two-night minimum) if they book on April 15.

Orbitz: Get a refund of the taxes owed for your trip. On April 15, visit this site (will go live on Tax Day) and sign up for OrbitzRewards (or just log into your account if you have one). Then, book a standalone hotel or vacation package. Orbitz will refund all taxes paid on your trip in the form of Orbucks into your Rewards account within 48 hours.
