Reston Snowstorm Likelihood Increases: Report

Weather models in the last 24 hours show a stronger likelihood of a snowstorm in our area.

RESTON, VA -- Computer models have shifted toward a significant snowstorm in the Reston area this weekend -- although it's still early.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang reports that "there is reasonably strong agreement" that the D.C. region as a whole will see at least some snow this weekend, and maybe more than a few inches.

Right now, you can expect the snow to start falling Saturday night and into the day on Sunday, but it could begin as early as Saturday afternoon.

Computer models had predicted anywhere from a dusting (or nothing) to as much as nine inches on Tuesday, but "confidence has increased over the past 24 hours," CWG wrote.

"We now think there is at least a 40 percent chance of an inch and about a 25 percent chance of at least three inches," they add. "These are conservative probabilities and will rise further unless models back away from their current forecasts, which average around 3 to 6 inches for the storm."

However, it's not a lock yet that we'll get a storm. With the system still five days out, anything could happen between now and then.

The precipitation is the main question, as it should be plenty cold enough to ensure snow should any fall.
