Meet the insurtech: Breeze

When conceiving and developing the disability insurance insurtech Breeze, CEO and co-founder Colin Nabity didn't expect the COVID-19 pandemic to be ravaging the globe. But now that they company is ready to launch, he believes the time is right: The need for income protection is abundantly clear.

“People are starting to think more about 'what-ifs'. And it's been a good thing for our business, but also in the midst of a time that has not been great to everybody,” shared Nabity. "We are excited to make affordable income protection insurance more accessible to business owners, freelancers, and gig economy workers."

According to Social Security Administration, reports one in four of today's 20-year-olds will experience a disability that prevents them from working for at least one year before reaching the normal retirement age. With the rapid changes caused by COVID-19, the demographics in workforces are changing as well. Independent contractors and freelancers are expected to be the majority of the working population. Breeze has partnered with Assurity to launch its API-driven disability insurance product targeting those workers.

The digital application and underwriting process provided by Assurity Life, will only improve Breeze’s disability coverage mission to help the 51 million working Americans without sufficient income protection in place. Found at the start of 2020, Breeze’s disability or income protection insurance products aids members who may become sick with 60 percent of their income to help through hardships. Filing through online applications customers can request personalized disability insurance quotes and apply in 10 to 15 minutes.

"Our streamlined online experience provides consumers a quick, convenient way to find coverage without enduring high-pressure sales tactics or archaic processes that have plagued the insurance industry in the past,” says Nabity.

Jared Carlson, Vice President of Individual Sales and Ventures at Assurity added, "We've long believed modern technology can help an underserved market access vital protection, and Breeze's system streamlines and simplifies what can otherwise be a complicated process. It's the right service at the right time, and Assurity is proud to underwrite this revolutionary new platform."
