MLB Returns to the ‘Field of Dreams’

Plus, the Aces and Sky face off with the top seed in the playoffs on the line.

Baseball returns to the ‘Field of Dreams’ tonight! The Cubs and Reds will face off in Dyersville, Iowa, in a unique event on the sports calendar this year. But it’s a busy slate overall, even if you got your baseball-in-cornfields fix last year. We’ve got preseason football, FedEx Cup action on the PGA Tour, the battle for the top spot in the WNBA standings and even the last episode of ESPN’s Derek Jeter documentary.

Here’s what I’m watching today.

A quick note: Due to COVID-19, sports schedules are fluid and subject to change.

MUST WATCH:

‘Field of Dreams’ Game: Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds

Field of Dreams game

Sure, it’s unrealistic to expect anything close to the magic of the first Field of Dreams game last year between the Yankees and White Sox, which combined a breathtaking backdrop with one of the most entertaining games of the season between two contenders. These two teams aren’t close to contention, but I’m still looking forward to watching another game in the cornfields. This should be fun.

HIDDEN GEM:

Chicago Sky at Las Vegas Aces

The Sky can clinch the WNBA’s top seed in the playoffs tonight with a win over the No. 2 Aces, but a Vegas win would flip things in the season’s final week. Just one game currently separates the two teams with two games to play.

Chicago losing earlier this week to the Storm 111–100 opened the door for the Aces to surge past them in the standings, but it will likely require the Aces winning their final two games: both tonight vs. the Sky and this weekend when the Storm come to town. Chicago and Las Vegas have split the season series this year. Who will win this game and potentially earn themselves home court advantage throughout the playoffs?
