The state Department of Public Safety will conduct a listening session in Duluth on Friday as part of a statewide push meant to encourage trust between communities and their police.
The sessions are designed to impact recruitment of new officers by exploring "the values and characteristics community members believe contribute to trust in police officers,” the Public Safety office news release said, outlining the event from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday at Duluth East High School, 301 N. 40th Ave. E.
Community members will be able to provide recommendations about what they believe is most important in recruiting new officers. Information gathered at the sessions will be available for viewing later on the Public Safety website at dps.mn.gov .
The process is designed to impact the men and women selected for positions in the Minnesota State Patrol, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement, the Public Safety office said.
