Knightly, 60, was fatally shot during a confrontation Saturday at Normandale Park in Northeast Portland. Kathleen Saadat, who lives in Northeast Portland, said Knightly was thoughtful and dedicated to acting on her values of justice and fairness. “She was a warm, giving and kind person who spent time trying to think of things she could do to make the world better and to make herself better in the world."

The woman who was killed Saturday during a violent confrontation at Normandale Park was identified Monday by friends who described her as a fixture of Portland’s protest movement.

June Knightly, 60, of Northeast Portland died after an armed resident confronted a group of unarmed women who were volunteering as part of a motorcade group working on traffic and logistics ahead of a planned demonstration at the Northeast Portland park, friends and a witness said.
