Prosecco is the go-to tipple at Christmas and thanks to its growing popularity, there's no shortage of the stuff in the lead up to December. While this is great news for fans of fizz, picking a decent bottle without spending a fortune can be a challenge.

But listen up, because the results of an independent taste test are in and this £10 bottle of bubbly could be the toast of party season.

Marks & Spencer's Prosecco has been crowned the best sparkling wine under £15, beating 23 other products to the title in Good Housekeeping's annual Christmas taste test. Praised for its "ripe, appley aroma" and "lively bubbles," the panel of judges described this drink as "a real crowd-pleaser". What more could you want from a bottle of festive fizz?

The blind test, conducted by taste experts and a consumer panel, also named four runners-up in the category - and best of all, there are a few bargains to be had.

The other highly commended products included the Tesco Finest Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco NV, also £10, and Freixenet Prosecco, priced at £12 a bottle, but three of the runners-up are under £8.

Lidl's Allini Prosecco Spumante Congeliano (£7.99), Asda's Fillipo Sansovino Prosecco (£7.98) and the Co-op Irresistible Prosecco (£7.99) were all ranked in the top five.

The M&S Prosecco was one of 316 items tested across 16 categories, including pigs in blankets, vegetarian alternatives and mince pies. If you're already dreaming about tucking into your favourite festive food and drink, see a full round-up of this year’s winners here.
