Nintendo will reveal the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate today. The unveiling will come by way of a short video presentation that premieres today, October 1, at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. That's less than half an hour away at the time of this writing, and you can watch the video as soon as it debuts below. [Update: Smash's new fighter is Steve from Minecraft--news that seemingly broke Twitter for a short period of time.]

According to Nintendo, the presentation will only run approximately three minutes long, and it will be followed by a "brief message" from game director Masahiro Sakurai, so it appears we won't get our usual deep-dive look at the new fighter just yet. There's no word on whether there will be an additional stream to go into further details or how soon the new fighter will be added to the game.

DLC Fighter Reveal Start Time

What We Know

This will mark the second DLC fighter to arrive from Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 2. The first, Min Min from Arms, was added to the game back in June. The Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will add six new characters in total to the game, so at least four more are still slated to follow after tomorrow's new fighter. The Fighters Pass Vol. 2 costs $30 USD.

According to games analyst Daniel Ahmad, who has correctly teased and revealed information in the past, this will not be a first-party character, meaning it won't be another addition from the Fire Emblem series, as some have jokingly suggested. Ahmad also noted it was unusual that dataminers hadn't found any hints pointing to whomever the new fighter is.

Smash Bros. Ultimate's most recent update arrived back in August, and it added a free new stage for all players: Small Battlefield. As its name says, this is a smaller version of the classic Battlefield stage, making for a much tighter arena. You can also play any music track from other stages on the level.

Nintendo has held numerous other video presentations recently. Earlier this month, the company aired a Direct presentation dedicated to Mario's 35th anniversary. That was followed by another Nintendo Direct Mini partner showcase, wherein Nintendo and Capcom unveiled two new Monster Hunter games for Switch: Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2. Most recently, there was a Pokemon presentation that revealed more details about Sword and Shield's next DLC expansion, The Crown Tundra.
