Dem. candidate Dan McCready rescinds Ilhan Omar donation

A Democratic candidate for Congress said Wednesday that he rescinded a donation to Rep. Ilhan Omar because he “vigorously disagrees” with her anti-Semitic comments.

Dan McCready, a candidate for congress in North Carolina, wrote on Twitter that he refunded the $2,000 donation after Omar made several controversial statements about Israel.

“Some folks are asking why I directed the return of Rep. Omar’s donation. I did this weeks ago because I vigorously disagree with any anti-semitic comments,” McCready wrote.

He added that since he did this, however, she’s been the subject to “dangerous and hateful attacks.”

“I condemn in the strongest terms the hateful rhetoric against her, the Muslim community and people of color,” he added. “Too many have been hurt by our broken politics. We must end hate speech against all people and groups.”

Omar, a Minnesota Democrat and one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, has made two controversial statements about Israel since she was elected to Congress, including saying the AIPAC lobby was “all about the Benjamins” and that supporters of Israel have to pledge allegiance to the country.

A video of Omar surfaced last week that showed her describing the 9/11 terrorist attack as “some people did something.”

Conservatives harshly criticized her, including President Trump, who tweeted a video overlaying her comments with footage of the 9/11 attacks.
