Ashland senior Taylor Vyskocil defeated Ali Bennett of Newman Catholic in a third-set supertiebreak after splitting the first two sets Thursday at the Wisconsin Division 2 girls tennis state tournament in Madison.
Vyskocil dropped the first set 6-1 before winning a second-set tiebreaker 7-5 and forcing the winner-take-all supertiebreak.
Vyskocil advances to play Anushka Mangal of Kohler in a second-round match this afternoon.
The Ashland doubles team of Maddie Clevette and Abby Davidson lost 6-2, 6-1 to Megan Prahl and Courtney Sturm of Catholic Memorial in the first round.
The other Ashland pairing of Mara Pierce and Kalli Mikkonen played a first-round match late Thursday.
