Channing Tatum cuts ties with The Weinstein Co.

Deadline reports that Channing Tatum has formally cut ties with The Weinstein Co., announcing that he will no longer be directing an adaptation of Matthew Quick’s book Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock for the studio. The film—about a high school student who plots a murder/suicide in retaliation for sexual abuse from a former friend—would have been Tatum’s directorial debut, working alongside frequent collaborator Reid Carolin.

The two men issued a statement today via Tatum’s Instagram, writing, “The brave women who had the courage to stand up and speak their truth about Harvey Weinstein are true heroes to us. They are lifting the heavy bricks to build the equitable world we all deserve to live in.” The pair also drew parallels between the current situation and Quick’s book, noting, “We are reminded of its powerful message of healing in the wake of tragedy,” and expressing hope for “real positive change” in Hollywood as accusations against Weinstein continue to be revealed.
