ASHBURN, VA — A man has been charged with embezzlement by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. The man, who police identified as Louis Turpin III, is accused of embezzling money from the Ashburn Youth Football League in 2019.

Turpin was formerly the president of the Ashburn Youth Football League. As part of his position as president, Turpin had access to the league's bank accounts, according to police reports.

Earlier this year, other league officials involved with the league identified irregularities regarding the league's finances, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. This discovery led to an investigation into the league's finances by the county's Financial Crimes Unit.

Turpin was removed as Ashburn Youth Football League's president by a court order in October of 2020. As president of the league, Turpin attempted to overturn an election that would have removed him from his position, according to court filings.

The Ashburn Youth Football League is now under new leadership.

Turpin is charged with two felony counts of embezzling. He was released from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a person recognizance bond. Turpin's arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 26.
