Lowell resident honored

LOWELL — The Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts named Elizabeth Obeng, a registered nurse with Northeast Arc Clinical Services, as its 2022 clinician of the year. Obeng, of Lowell, was honored during an event in November.

The award honors a nurse or therapist who showcases clinical excellence in their work; a commitment to individual professional growth; special contributions to their agency and colleagues; a special degree of caring and commitment to patients and longevity in the home care profession.

“I’m so honored to receive this award from the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts,” Obeng said. “I have dedicated my career to helping others, and I truly view all of my patients as an extension of my family.”

Preschool playgroup

TEWKSBURY — A brand new preschool playgroup launches at the Tewksbury Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 11 to 11:45 a.m., 300 Chandler St. Children will learn some literacy skills and enjoy organized games in the library’s Children’s Room. Virtual Alzheimer’s conference

Massachusetts residents are invited to a free educational conference hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association New England Region for individuals living with dementia and their families. The virtual two-day conference takes place Feb. 3 and 4, and is free and open to individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, family caregivers and the general public. New this year, live translation in Spanish will be offered during the entire conference.

Annual Chocolate Festival to go

WESTFORD — Only 200 boxes of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church’s homemade chocolate desserts will be sold during the annual Chocolate Festival. The boxes can be purchased online for $23, on bit.ly/3XAS21P,  and picked up at the church on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m., 75 Cold Spring Road.

All proceeds benefit the Westford Food Pantry, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at Devens, St. Paul’s Soup Kitchen in Lowell, and St. Mark’s building fund, which supports low-cost community use of its facilities. Last year’s event raised $6,000.

Boxes may also be purchased on behalf of the Westford Fire Department, and will be delivered by volunteers after the festival.

Raffles are also part of the “to go” festival. Enter the premium raffle for $5 per ticket for gift packages and certificates or a general raffle at $2 a ticket to win one of 25 prizes donated by other local businesses.
