Police seek dash cam video in targeted South Vancouver shooting

Vancouver police are investigating what they’re describing as a targeted shooting in southeast Vancouver on Saturday.

Officers received reports of shots fired just after 5 p.m. in the area of East 53rd Avenue and Prince Edward Street.

Neighbours said they heard the shots, but initially didn’t believe it was a shooting.

“I was like, maybe that’s a gunshot. And then it turned out it was like six of them in a row. It sounded like really loud claps, like a Yeti was clapping,” said one resident.

Another told Global News the area has seen some crime in the past, but is generally quiet.

“We did have someone shot up the street a few years ago… mostly it’s been peaceful. But it’s kind of scary when it happens. You do what you do to try and support your community,” she said.

Police said a 45-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds, and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say no arrests have been made and the investigation is in its early stages.

Police said they are now looking for dash cam footage shot in the area between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Specifically, police are looking for video shot south of East 49th Avenue, north of East 57th Avenue, west of Fraser Street and East of Main Street.
