Wallace and Gromit are gearing up for another onscreen adventure – but fans of the Aardman-animated characters had better get comfortable with being patient, as it won't be released until Christmas 2024.

From the creative mind of Nick Park, the as-yet-untitled new film is set to see Gromit grow concerned over Wallace's increasing dependence on his elaborate inventions. The puzzled pooch's worries prove justified, too, when Wallace creates a "smart gnome" that soon develops a mind of its own.

As chaos around them ensues, it's up to Gromit to curb his attitude and face off against sinister forces – or else, Wallace may lose his passion (and knack) for inventing forever.

The BBC is said to have moved forward with the project following the success of the latest Shaun the Sheep title 'The Flight Before Christmas', which aired on BBC One on Christmas Eve. This new outing will premiere on the BBC in the UK, and on Netflix across the rest of the world.

"It's incredibly exciting to be taking British audiences on a cracking new adventure with Wallace & Gromit and to be continuing our long relationship with Aardman and Nick Park following the success of Shaun the Sheep this Christmas," Charlotte Moore, Chief Content Officer, said in a statement.

"Wallace and Gromit are so loved by everyone at Aardman – they're like family to us, and we couldn't be more excited to be creating a brand-new film for them to star in," Sean Clarke, MD of Aardman, added.

"When Nick came up with the concept for a 'smart gnome', we all agreed that Wallace would find the idea irresistible – despite warnings from Gromit, who is wise beyond his (dog) years. We're sure audiences will find the story irresistible too."
