Giants Agree to Deal With Free-Agent Slugger Jorge Soler, per Report
The San Francisco Giants have added some muscle to their lineup ahead of Spring Training.
While Giants pitchers and catchers are preparing to report to Scottsdale in just two days' time, the club's front office was busy making a last-minute addition to the roster, as San Francisco and free agent slugger Jorge Soler have agreed to terms on a three-year contract, according to Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle.
Soler's deal with the Giants is worth $42 million.
He had opted out of his contract with the Miami Marlins, which would have paid him $13 million in 2024, to become a free agent in November, ultimately earning himself a nice payday with the Giants in the process.
After battling hip and back injuries in 2022, Soler belted 36 homers and rebounded with an All-Star campaign, helping the Marlins advance to the postseason in 2023. In 10 career MLB seasons, the slugger has belted 170 home runs, posted a .797 OPS and helped two teams, the 2016 Chicago Cubs and 2021 Atlanta Braves, win the World Series.
Now, Soler will look to help boost a Giants lineup that ranked 19th in total home runs and 26th in team OPS in 2023.
